B30 vs Magic Miner 40T — which one should I buy?

Ok I've been going back and forth on this for two weeks and I need to just pick one. I have a BS-1 and two Gammas right now, about 8 TH total. Want to add one real box and stop buying little ones. It's between the Harlo B30 ($899, 30 TH) and the Magic Miner 40T ($799, 40 TH). On paper the 40T wins, it's cheaper AND faster. So why does everyone I talk to keep pushing me toward the B30? Is it just the OS? Does it matter that much? It's going in my basement next to the furnace so noise isn't a huge deal. Power is cheap here (Sask). Mostly lottery, maybe some pool. Who has one of these and what would you do.

40T. 10 more TH for $100 less, that's the whole decision for me. OS is OS, you set a pool and a wallet once and you never look at it again. People overthink this.

Disagree. I've had two P2s on Harlo OS since the summer and the reason I'd go B30 is I know exactly how it's going to behave. Auto reconnect, the dashboard actually tells you when a chip is cold, firmware updates come from the same people I bought it from. The 40T is a good box but it's a stock-firmware box, if something's weird you're on a Telegram group at 2am. 10 TH isn't worth that to me.

"If something's weird" is doing a lot of work there lol. Nothing's been weird on my end. But fair, if you want it boring, B30 is boring in the good way.

Honestly the thing nobody mentions, these are not the same class of machine. The 40T is louder and pulls more, it's closer to a small farm miner than a desk miner. Basement next to the furnace is fine for either, but if there's any chance it moves upstairs later get the B30. Mine's in a 14°C basement and it's basically silent compared to the fans the 40T runs.

Office guy here, I would never put a 40T in the same room as me. Basement changes that math completely though. If you're lottery mining the extra 10 TH is 33% more tickets. That's not nothing.

Ok the "33% more tickets" thing is what's been pulling me to the 40T, and the "you're on a Telegram group at 2am" thing is what's been pulling me to the B30. So I'm exactly where I started lol. Leaning B30 and just buying another Gamma to make up some of the TH.

That's what I'd do. B30 + Gamma is still under $1k and you're at ~40 TH with one box you'll never think about.
